These guys are worth checking out as well, if you're looking for free software for Windows. They have some overlap with the GNUWin guys but are more oriented towards producing a single CD with an easy software browser/installer.

I use Windows very rarely these days, but I'm still amazed at the number of people running Windows (and according to my stats, that's about half of you) who search for free software and end up downloading spyware or "freeware" loaded with nags or time bombs.... or worse. Before you just go and type "edit wav files" or "free games" into google, you should really try these guys:

Rise of the Tifaux

I was sitting in a chat room this evening and noticed other people have started adopting a word I coined a few months ago: Tifaux, the Krusty brand imitation gruel of PVR's. Don't get me wrong, I love my Tifaux, it does what I need it to do and it would take me about 5 years of Tifaux fees before I approached the cost of even a low end PVR, but the Tifaux is still not a Tivo or ReplayTV. The Tifaux has a slightly greater tendency to crash, and the Tifaux lacks some of the other features of the so-called "real PVR's" like recommendations, a real "season pass" and a flexible program guide, but the Tifaux also doubles as a digital cable box and can record two programs at once while playing back. Tifaux even gives you picture-in-picture, if you're into that kind of thing. At 5 bucks a month with nothing up front I'll keep my Tifaux and even got a second Tifaux.
